A Story Unlike Any Other - Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin

Some books entertain, some provoke thought, but a rare few change you. Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin is one of those books for me. I never thought I would relate to a book about video games as I myself am not and never have been a gamer. The storyline and writing style of this book are absolutely unique, weaving together love, loss, creativity, friendship, business, family and the passage of time in a way I’ve never experienced before. The action follows Sam and Sadie, two kids passionate about playing video games, a passion so intense that will make them superstars.

But if I had to choose just one passage that stayed with me long after finishing the book, it would be this:

“Can you believe our luck?” Marx said. “We bought a house with a tree that has my actual favorite fruit.” Sam used to say that Marx was the most fortunate person he had ever met—he was lucky with lovers, in business, in looks, in life. But the longer Sadie knew Marx, the more she thought Sam hadn’t truly understood the nature of Marx’s good fortune. Marx was fortunate because he saw everything as if it were a fortuitous bounty. It was impossible to know—were persimmons his favorite fruit, or had they just now become his favorite fruit because there they were, growing in his own backyard?”

This quote captures something so simple yet so profound—the idea that luck isn’t just about circumstance, but about how you choose to see the world. It made me think about every person in my life and the way they navigate joy, hardship, and change. Some people, like Marx, have the gift of finding beauty in whatever life gives them and I found myself so lucky to have such people in my life. If in this second you think of people who own this mindset, I dare you to thank them. ❤️

This book left a mark on me, and if you haven’t read it yet, I can’t recommend it enough!!!!

Happy reading,

Bea🩷
